Bottom Bracket - complaint

Dear Mods

I thought it best to approach you on the open forum so that everyone can see my issues.

Although teBeottom Bracket was opened with the best intentions, I must admit to finding it confusing - it seems to have bought across all topics from Cake Stop including the ones that the communters found offensive.

Therefore I propose the following:

1. Cake Stop is left as it is - its what's done can't be undone. Its Donald Ducked, so we may as well kiss it goodbye.
2. Bottom Bracket continues with the standard topics found in Cake Stop - can I wear a yellow jersey, can I wear team kit, football, etc. You no longer have to be logged in to view this.
3. A new area is opened (maybe called "The Slighty Soiled Rear Mech" or something with as much potential double entendre) which holds the "Girls In", "Willhub" and "Norks" threads. You have to garee to a one off disclaimer to enter this passage of knowledge.

As you, the mods are working for us, the members of the forum, I look forward to receiving your reply in this thread. Serve to lead and all that jazz, and we used to say.

Many thanks and kind regards

Yossie

I think it was nicely summed up:

Bottom Bracket is an over moderated Cake Stop (as they set it up they want to make sure we are behaving). I can imagine they are freaking out about what MIGHT have been happening in Cake Stop while it was unmoderated except by DDD.
Cake stop is a write off, much like a carbon frame when wet.

There is no frikking need for so many areas. It was pretty good to have the core 5/6 (Beginners/buying advice/cake stop/communting chat and the for sale thread) What has happened now is this place is unnavigable.
Also, I don't like the girls in Lycra as much as I like the girls in knitwear and short skirts, so what about the other connoisseurs among us?

Why are you making life hard?

Can I lube my chain here? Should I be thoroughly de-greased first?

Other than different names, how is this any different to what we have now?

Seems quite heavy on the moderation. Why does cake stop even exist any more?

    so 1 fine
    2 fine
3 what add yet another forum? when you have one that already does what you are asking?

why? what will the forum gain?

    due to idiots.

for an off topic area that does not include Tits.

    Not really.

    It's supposed to be relaxed.

I think some people got a little over-excited about it all - hence some moderators feeling it necessary to intervene.

Once everyone's calmed down, the BB will be very relaxed re-moderation. Though again, breaking the forum rules will result in problems. Things like posting naked pictures etc.

Like I said, if you're not sure how it works, head over to the MTB section and see it there. It's the same set up.

But since it is not compulsory to be rude on BB, then all Cake Stop is is a place for people scared of "Girls in" threads to post.

Still, if people post on it, it justifies its existence.

I reckon you would have a lot fewer upset forumers if you had made the new highly regulated section Bottom Bracket and left Cake Stop to be the haven for miscreants.

or admit that making rick chasey a mod was a massive mistake.

momentarily from the herd and thinks for himself.

Bar one deleted post, all the things that have been complained about have nothing to do with me - I'm not capable of making the changes that have occured, and I was barely on BR over the weekend.

My appointment coincided with the girls in... thread, since the mods felt the needed someone who posted in road and commuters to pay attention, since the current mods are mainly MTBers.

You make out there's a big conspiracy, but in reality I spent very little time moderating the cake stop since there wasn't much to moderate.

This settup is a good compromise. People who find the 'banter' alienating can avoid it but still discuss things off-topic - yet those who want it can still continue to do so, without fear that their 'banter' might be interpreted wrongly.

I don't get Bottom Bracket - I though this is where we came to let loose with all the stuff that originally got complained about yet now it is moderated more than cakestop? Basically cakestop and Bottom Bracket are exactly the same thing. I thought one or the other was going to be a no holds barred type forum (obviously with a few exceptions) where anything goes but apparently neither are this? So why have two? I'm so confused. :?

You're right, it is, only lots of people got over excited and carried away when it first opened.

Just take it easy, stop moaning, and don't post pictures that violate the rules and it'll be fine.

But if we can't show bare tits whats the difference to cake stop?

And why has cake Stop now become full of communters and people spouting rubbish "poetry" (apart from the "favourite poem thread that is).

I still can't, for the life of me, understand why people found threads they entered offensive when they were clearly marked with the topics contained therein - if I saw a thread entitled "racists, anti semitics and homophobes hang out here" I wouldn't go in there.

And I still can't believe that the Mods succumbed to Communter pressure to have Cake Stop, essentially, closed down against all its members' (oooeeerrrrr) wills.

    And as an aside:

don't post pictures that violate the rules and it'll be fine

I thought that there were no rules in B/B? Bit like the Thunderdome.

Relaxed moderation re-banter, and you can actually have a girl in... thread, which won't be allowed anywhere else on the forum.

This was going to happen a while ago - it's just taken a while to put into place.

But essentially still not much different then, no proper tits? Don't get me wrong i'm a fan of girl's in threads, less revealing is often more revealing, but this essentially means people originally complained about women actually wearing clothes, and now we have a new forum where we can still only look at women wearing clothes?

    More or less.

Read the rules. It will make sense then.

What you guys don't see are the complaints for the things some people have posted in cake stop.

Now, we understand that those views aren't always shared, so we've made a concession to both parties to keep them happy.

This is all explained in the rules.

Overriding all of this is a compliance to the rules that bikeradar has across the website - things like no nudity, pornography etc etc. They have to be adhered to wherever you are.

Would it be fair to say....

MTB General = Cake Stop (in which case why Road General?)
    Crud Catcher = BB

In which case, given what is allowed in CC, there is going to be some pretty serious banter. Not sure what the road equivalent of Sheep's Mum, heads backward in ditches (Aggies Basement?), limes and string are yet tho
We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

It is a bit of a stretch to say anyone got over excited. You locked a very light banter thread by Vesterberg. That struck as anything but light moderation.

I think the best mods help to create the culture of a forum by their contributions more than by their censure. Just sayin'
