Afternoon

Heading to Box Hill from Putney for the first time tomorrow, anyone got any tips? I cycle a reasonable amount, approx 100 miles a week including around Richmond Park quite a lot. So, how tough is this hill? I am sure any Northerners out there will scoff at this :)

Thanks

It's an easy hill, it's not really tough at all, it's not steep, it's not long, it's just a hill. Tomorrow will seemingly continue todays unfavourable wind, so it's not a good day to do it. But it will likely take you not that much different in time than going from Roehampton to Richmond gate.

There are lots of tough hills in the north downs, Box isn't one of them, just about anyone should be able to get up it.

Yup, Box Hill is a pleasant climb, but certainly not a difficult one.

The key of course, to reporting back on here as to how you got on is to do it in 6 minutes or less

Which is a lot easier since the resurfacing, but still pretty tough... Although the current big winds had only one guy up there sub 6 today on strava, and I know he drafted for most of the long zig (or is it zag) Sub 5 is really needed for bragging rights :)

It's a good hill for tracking progress as everything but a south east wind is reasonably sheltered, so improvements can be reasonably genuine - although not absolute as north west winds do help - as does drafting of course. If your first time up there is sub 6 or sub 15, just know you'll go faster in the future.
