It's on 'nutrutional products', so I don't know it applies to isotonic drinks but it does to energy gels.
It was announced in the budget, there was a consultation on it: http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPort ... OD1_031984 closed on 18th May. Not sure what the outcome was for sports stuff but they backed down on some aspects after lobbying.0 -

It will apply to all energy products, currently some, depending on the flavour (WTF??) do carry VAT. Torq being an example. The only exception to the rule so far seems to have been SiS, but that is starting to change, but as from October 1st all will be subject to VAT.
Not quite sure who will have to suck up the increase but I dare bet the RRP's will go up so I suggest you stock pile as most have a good date line on them.

It varies depending on ingredients - years ago, only anything with chocolate or choc flavouring carried VAT. Now, it would appear it's more complicated that that - the majority of ZipVit already carries VAT as does the entire Gatorade range...
Just don't invent a Cornish pasty based energy product, that could be taxed to Kingdom come0 -

all extra VAT from energy drinks commonly used by cyclists should be used to make the road surfaces better!! I'll get Boris on the case, i'm sure he'd be up for that!www.conjunctivitis.com - a site for sore eyes0
