Why does Strava say I burned 455cals on my ride to work today and my Garmin Edge says 1031cals
I know its not an exact science (particularly without a Heart Rate Monitor) but still. Thats a huge difference! Its the same activity uploaded to Strava from the Garmin.
Same on way back: Garmin says 1069cals for return and Strava says 543cals

They are probably both wrong but Garmins are known to massively over estimate.Mud - Genesis Vapour CCX

If I invest in a Heart Rate Monitor will it become loads more accurate?FCN 7: Dawes Galaxy Ultra 2012 - sofa-like comfort to eat up the miles

A powermeter might be more accurate but not sure about an HRM. Garmin reckons I burned 10,286 calories on the Tour of the Black Mountains a couple of years back. I think that's an overestimate. It also reckons I burn over 1,000 calories an hour on a TT - which I don't think is physically possible. Shame really as then I wouldn't be such a fat git.0
