After a new crankset, deore or slx? for 2010 giant trance x4.Would i need to get the frame faced or could i just put the new stuff straight on? The trance x3 and x2 both have the external type bearings as standard and they have the same frame as far as i know.Thanks.
Or should i just hide the bike at the back of the garage and order a new x3 canyon nerve or spesh camber expert! lol

Deore or SLX, your choice, they are both worth it. I think that facing would not be necessary, and yes, they use the same frame. But, the paint finish is different between the x4 and x3 so I would double check.
I would just slap it on if I were you. :D

    PS, have you upgraded anything?

Wouldn't do any harm to have it faced, it's not always necessary but should help prolong the life of your BB.

If it originally came with outboard bearings the chances are it's already been done (you would imagine so).

i would always put the tool to any frame to check.

I have a Trance X5 (2009 maybe?). Just got a new external BB and got it faced, partly because I'd managed to dent the BB shell and wasn't sure if everything was still parallel and the paint. As it turned out it was pretty good but not perfect.

As regards other upgrades, I've just replaced things as they've broken with a slightly better replacement - shock is now a Fox, forks replaced with Rebas, carbon seatpost (the Giant one broke within a couple of weeks  ), slightly lighter rear wheel, XT rear mech. I went with the Deore cranks and BB, purely on price and I'm quite happy with them.
It does everything I want to and it's pretty reliable now so can't ask for much more.

To be honest- "just slap it on"is my normal and preferred method :D however perhaps i should get it looked at by a bike shop, especially as i don't know what i'm doing,i hate paying for stuff though.Wonder how much it costs?
I have pinched the avid elixir cr brakes(which have been a pain in the arse lately) ,mavic wheels ,raceface seatpost and wider race face bars off my other bike and changed rear mech to slx.
Still got the original giant shock on which i like and have no desire to change, and the original toras which are fine but i would like to upgrade them when/if they break.
The bikes been great, but although i know i don't need one, i just can't help myself looking at newer bikes! :?

I wouldn't expect the Toras to break, or nothing what cheap fix wouldn't do. The Giant shock is good, from what I have read from reviews.
If you are diagnosed with upgradetivitis, I would probably upgrade the fork, see RS Reba RL/T or Fox F120 RLC. Go for 15mm axle if your wheels can take it.

And, ride it and enjoy it! :)
