There isn’t a problem when peddling But I have noticed when turning the chain anti clock wise the chain moves up a cog and the chain also comes off the plastic cog on the derailleur the one closest to the metal cogs, and gets stuck , Just wondering if there is a problem or is this normal .

put it in a middle rear cog.

Sounds like you might have knocked your rear mech shifter up or down by accident after you got off the bike then when you spun the cranks the wrong way the mech was out of line causing it to attempt a retarded gear shift.

I made sure the gear is right on the smallest cog and it still does it . Funny thing is when looking at the chain it seems to look like the chain is running to the left not level all the way round, As the chain moves from the metal cog to the derailleur plastic cog seems like it moves on a slight slant.

so it happens in any gear combo?

how the chain leaves the cassette and goes onto the mech has no effect on what happens when you rotate the cranks the wrong way. It only effects things when pedaling.

    Like i said new chain?

Does it shift ok when you are turning the pedals the right way?
  • Won't it be something to do with the chain line?

There is nothing when back pedaling to guide the chain onto any particular gear at the rear, usually it will head towards the middle of the cassette but often jam up, when I oil the chain I put it in 5th (middle) and it stays there.
