avid elixir

i have a set of avid elixir brakes, 5 i think, and the levers are having alot of play, both in up and down motion, and through the stroke, ie, you can move the lever through the stroke before actually acting on the fluid. I know avid levers have that snap lever thing, where if you push the lever away from the bars, they click into a fixed place (they say its helpful when removing a wheel) i have checked its not this.

Any ideas on how i can solve this, as its highly irritating and makes a loud rattle sound

Tom

If you want a shorter lever throw bleed them with a makeshift bleed block that is thinner than the stock on by about 2mm.

Yeah - I am thinking about doing this with my juicy 3s

I have no idea if it would work with juicys - different lever design entirely and the pads are a fricken nightmare to change, which you'll be doing a lot.

    Feel free to try though.

It should work - just need a way to get a little more DOT in the system, hopefully.

Have got used to changing the pads - not as easy as the Elixirs I have on the hybrid, but not too difficult. Cant see any reason why I would be doing it any more often for Juicy's compared to Elixir's though - the wear rate on the pads will not be any different?

Thus far, the Elixirs have proved much easier to align than Juicys and dont neet re-aligning every few rides like the Juicys and are less noisy - much better system all round. I think when I replace my Juicys it will be with Shimano though...

When you're trying to overfill the system you'll likely have the pads in and out about 6 times to get it right. It's trial and error so you'll get it wrong a few times before it's right, and ofcourse each time means taking the pads out and putting them back in!

Took me a good few attempts.

    Good luck though!
