Just bought a used MTB. I want to clean it up, degrease it and oil up so that i can make it all mine.

I have no idea what cleaning products i should buy for it and degreaser/oil products.

Any recommendations and tips on cleaning ? perhaps a all in one product ?

  • Only point i would add, is bear in mind that Fairy liquid (and other dishwashing detergents) contain a lot of salt so ensure you follow up with lots of clean water, or a further product like degreasers.

Household all-purpose cleaners are very good at oil removal too, especially those that are citrus based - Tesco's Daisy brand is very cheap (ca £0.70 a litre) and effective.

A product used widely in car valetting is Virosol - its a citrus based cleaner/degreaser, often used by valetting companies as an initial rinse. It can be diluted down to 1:10 strength for general cleanign duties. Even at that strength it will remove any wax that you have applied to the frame etc. Ensure plenty of rinsing after use.

very true, I use washing up liquid and warm water and it always brings the bike out beautifully, don't bother with the fancy cleaning products, they do work, but you can get the same end results with products at home, just makes a little more work some times. Fairy liquid and some form of furniture polish and your bike will look good as new.
