Bought new tyres about a 2 months ago - Schwalbe Blizzard Sport for my commute, now got a 2-3mm gash across the centre part of the tyre I hear of tyre boots and superglue remedys but do they actually work and what reccommendations of materials or technque do you have?

Cheers.

I've previously advocated using a bit of old tyre glued in place - but after a series of punctures with the same marks on the tube I've realised that high pressure tubes can puncture against fairly innocuous boots. Blizzards are pretty cheap so you could just get a new one?

yeah ypu are probably right, they are quite cheap but only had them a few months - need money for other stuff really!

Strip of toothpaste tube wrapped round the tube a couple of times in the right place should last until the tyre wears out.

unless the cut actually penetrates the carcass (the internal part of the tyre that gives it strength) just carry on riding

if the cut is all the way through...

check that the inside of the cut isn't rough - as it may eventually abrade the tube and cause a puncture - if it is rough, you can put a patch on the inside, or a bit of pvc/similar tape

also check that the tyre isn't bulging at that point and that the tube isn't forcing it's way through the hole, if either of these is happening you can use a tyre boot, either a commercial one or diy
