Rim Refurb - Dismantle?

Hi guys,
A customer of ours who runs an allow wheel repair centre has kindly agreed to repair my bike rims after they have suffered a few dents around the perimeter. He is also going to re-powerdercoat them which will be cool.
So, I need to take the wheels apart and have two questions...
1) how do I dismantle them fully (especially taking the spokes off) so I can hand over just the rim? What is involved and what tools might I need?
2) can I put it all back together myself or does it need to go to a professional to be properly aligned etc?
Don't really want to just start ripping them apart without any guidance so a leg up would be appreciated

you will need to unbuild them.
read sheldons pages on wheel building."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

They do, but on a correctly built wheel their lifespan is many many years.0 -
