Here's my first proper built by me from scratch roadbike, bought a cheap orbea on ebay and split it, kept the parts i wanted and rebuilt the rest, upgraded by buying bits and pieces on here and ebay and eventually got the racelight frame and again took the orbea apart and rebuilt everything onto the kinesis frame.

Started by knowing nothing about bikes and watched many youtube videos and became slightly addicted to the sheldon brown website ! So this is what i ended up with, all on a budget done over 2 years and for the grand sum of around 500 quid.

Very nice. It must be very satisfying to have built up your own bike. Something I'll get round to one day and have started to look for a frame to start the process. Did you have to spend a lot on special tools? What would you say are the pitfalls if any or things now you have the knowledge would advise anyone else to consider or do?

Didnt buy any special tools, found that a decent multi tool does the job ! Once i built it up, i then took it along to local bike shop andasked them to use a torque wrench to check everything and adjust cables and anything else that neded it, cost me the grand sm of 20 quid for that !

I also asked quite a few questions on the forum and a few messages to helpful members who pointed me in the right direction when i wasnt sure, and yes it is massively satisfying building it yourself, just makes it really feel like its 'my' bike and hopefully there isnt another one quite like it !
  • Hi mate, thats really nice, it looks like a build from someone with a lot more experience so I'm surprised it's your first!
The brakes look similar to the OEM ones on my Trek 1.1, I like the black cockpit/white seatpost combo.
    Enjoy
