After receiving a great deal of help with regards to my new purchase of a Colnago C59 (See Here), I finally had a bike fit with Adrian last Thursday.

I never really expected the level of professionalism or the scientific abilities of a bike fit, how wrong I was.

From the minute of arriving Adrian took charge punctually and professionally, At the age of 52 I thought that maybe I was relying on too much at my age, and I felt that Adrian treated me no different as many of the professional riders that he looks after as well.

From the minute of warming up on the turbo, to the absolute stacks of measurements taken, Adrian was convinced that he could sort my problems and choice of frame.

He asked me to brief him what my issues were and specifically what I wanted to achieve and the type of riding that I did: -

1. Try & Resolve why having done between 7000-8000 miles a year that I still get a numb perineum and sore sitbones.

2. Try & Resolve why my left hand keeps going number when riding distances.

3. Try & help me get more power down.

4. Confirm that the 50 Sloping Colnago C59 is correct for me.

Adrian is an ex Tour De France Rider so he knows a thing or two about getting a bike to fit and he said that he could make my Arione Saddles feeling like razor blades or armchairs!

When I arrived I had an Selle SMP Dynamic saddle on test from a friend, Adrian was dismissive about the need for such a saddle as he felt that the bike fit would resolve that, so we agreed to organise the fit with my Arione which I had brought with me.

After nearly three hours, Adrian had fitted moulded insoles for my Sidi Ergo's, moved my saddle back by nearly 2 inches, lowered my saddle 1.5 cm's as moving the saddle back had altered where my power could be delivered, he had rotated my Handlebars by only a few millimetres and repositioned my shifters to allow for that.

At the end of the fit my hands fell naturally in a relaxed manner onto the shifters, on the drops I felt really comfortable, the saddle no longer hurt my sitbones, but moved the support into the correct place and the whole bike felt as though I was in it and not on it.

Adrian confirmed that the frame I had ordered was correct and made some suggestions as to what I may need to do when the new frame arrives, he also showed me how to transfer the data and fit details onto the new frame.

If I couldn't set it up right, then Adrian would set it up for just £35 and if I wanted my TT bike setting up then that would cost just £45.

And all this with ample cups of coffee aptly made by Pedro.

The big test would be a fun 70 mile ride due for last Saturday.

On the way to the ride, my mates commented that I looked more racey on the frame and this certainly felt as such, I also felt more powerful and more in control, some of this might be psychological, but at the end of the ride I still felt fresh and powerful and a couple of my mates that normal destroy me claimed that I had put the pressure on whilst appearing effortless, indeed two of them were knackered whilst I was still fresh as a daisy and wanted more and more importantly no aches, pains or numbness.

So at the end of the day I can wholeheartedly recommend Adrian, check his web site out at http://www.cadencesport.co.uk parking is good, there is no traffic to worry about and you end up enjoying your riding rather than wishing it was over.

Sadly another company in London has emulated Adrian's company name and website design and colours, don't be fooled as I was initially writing to the wrong company, then do not have the skills or expertise to do what Adrian does, when I wrote to them I thought I was writing to Adrian, they replied pretending as if they were the same company instead of correcting me and saying that I was writing to the wrong company, just a word of warning.

I have no connection with Adrian or http://www.cadencesport.co.uk I'm just passing on a recommendation that may just help a fellow member get their fit sorted.

  • Great post, this surely proves the value of a professional bike fit beyond any doubt, especially if you are having problems/pains. Thanks for the detailed review, Cadence is only 15 minutes or so from me, so I might avail myself of his services sometime!

I had another ride yesterday of 40 miles and I'm not imagining how good the fit was, I feel like I'm flying down hill and able to put the pressure down on the flat and even climbing seems better.

I'm going to transfer the settings to my other bikes this weekend and see how things go from there.

    Cheers,

You'd hope so wouldnt you!! Unfortunately there will always be plenty to say what a waste of money it is (none of whom have the slightest first hand experience themselves of course!!)

I had a pro fitting and i'm firmly in the "best possible upgrade is a bike fit" camp 8)
