Fitted a new 11 speed chain today onto my record set up and it is jumping on the cassette like knowbodies business. I got the cassette (super record) secondhand and it was ok with the old chain but I guess must be pretty worn so on the look out for a new. I am not in a position to shell out £200+ on a new one so while looking on ebay have seen the copies from Taewain which are v. light (120g), ceramic coated which seem good value at about £85. They do though seem to be Aluminium as opposed to steel / titanium.
Does anyone have any experience of these and do they last? I saw another one listed which said that rough changing or incorrect gear set up can affect performance so a bit worried should they be very soft and liable to break so that after 500 miles of me crunching up and down it in the peaks the thing is only useful as a mobile. Not uber weight weenie conscious, more just want something reliable that should last.
Any advice or experience of these would be appreciated.

Are these the ones described as cassette tapes?

No experience of them but I couldn't imagine a cheap aluminium cassette wearing very well, ceramic coating or not.
If I was in your position I'd play it safe and buy a Chorus cassette. It'll last ages and once you've fitted it to your bike I'm sure you wouldn't tell it apart from your Record one. Ribble are selling them for less than eighty quid at the mo.

That's great advice from Rob^^^^
The Chorus cassette is top quality and will last thousands of miles if you change the chain regularly (i.e. before it wears too much). I run one with my super record groupset, no issues with smooth changing at all. For £80 odd for the Chorus I wouldn't touch the Taiwanese version on ebay.0 -
So you spend £££ fitting a Record 11 speed and complain you can't afford an OEM cassette. Just buy a Chorus/Athena one. You could try running three chains, alternating every x number of miles so you get gradual wear.M.Rushton0

Thanks for all the advice so far. FYI I picked up the 11 speed record stuff second hand for a steal. I can afford a OEM cassette, I was just not sure wether I should or not. What I cannot afford/justify is to spend £200+ on a new record one!!
Therefore as per peoples advice I have decided to get a Chorus one as Ribble are doing them for around £73.
Thanks again for all the input0 -
i have had two of these one was a recon model for sram the other i am using on my 11 speed record set up on my carbon mavic slrs. i would say for flat/ light hill work which i use these wheels for excellent and seriously drop weight off your set up ,this set up is lighter than my shamal wheels . but for hill work i would not recommend i broke 3 teeth off when changing up under pressure on a 15% ascent, still worked o.k. but i bit worrying. so to sum up ok on light pressure not ok on heavy use . hope this helps.last month wilier gt -this month ? bh rc10

Thanks for the advice on these alluminium cassettes. There are numerous 15% or greater clims around me in the peaks and dont fancy the idea of stripping teeth as I crunch through the gears. ordered a Chorus one last night so hoping that shall cure all my issues. Will then use old cassette where I have replaced the most worn cogs with some 10 speed single sprockets I had lying around and that should hopefully be enough for turbo work.
Thanks gents for your input to date0 -
I wouldn't risk it with campag personally, I personally would only buy the geniune Campag accessories.0
