I am not after something for heavy duty off roading. I am pretty much gonna stick to the black stuff and want something fast, light and nimble.
What honestly do you reckon to this Boardman? It does get a good write up on this very site. I have been looking around for something used and keep coming back to spending 500-600 on a new one, as I can't see anything I like used at a price that's reasonable.
Any opinions, or other suggestions very very much appreciated!!

Very good for the money - tough, pretty capable and lighter than many road bikes.0

Yeh, I'm very tempted. It is VERY light isn't it?
Any serious downsides to the carbon fork? A guy in work mentions 'catastrophic failure' whenever I discuss carbon! :shock:0 -
Carbon can be stronger than alu and titanium if used right. Like in F1 ;-)
Nothing wrong with that fork.0 -
2x10 gears not going to give you much top end speed though is it, for road use?0

Dunno tbh, I'm no expert. Though, I deffo want it to be pretty fast. :?
The review on this site says "The rest of the finishing kit is pure mountain bike. SRAM’s X7 2x10 drivetrain with FSA’s Comet 42/27-tooth double crankset twinned with an 11-34-tooth 10-speed cassette provides all the gears a relatively fit rider should ever need, for on and off-road use. A 42x11 is big enough for fairly high road speeds while a 27x34 is small enough for the most difficult off-road climbs. 2x10 drivetrains will probably be the established mountain bike norm within a couple of years."0 -
Probably ok then sounds like they have geared it for road.0

Phew....I am so close to taking the plunge with one of these.
Anything else you'd spend £600 on??0 -
At a cadence of 100 that'll do about 30mph. Would be fast enough for me.I don't do smileys.

After googling 'cadence', I now know what you mean. 100 is achievable on a flat road......30mph sounds plenty quick enoug to me too!
Hmm, is there another bike I should be considering?0 -
For what you want, no. I'd rather have one of those than a hybrid.
Guy I ride with now and again has one nice bike, capable on and off road as long as you don't want to do big jumps or anything like that.I don't do smileys.

Yeh, no big jumps planned. That's good to know....I'm gonna pop up to Halfords this morning.
Anyone else on here got any experience/opinions on 'em?0 -

Im looking to get one of these to replace my ageing giant mtb commuter nice light bike and it gives you the option of throwing a sus fork on a later date. Let us know what its like if you get it.The family that rides together stays together !

Had a good look round it today and I think I'm gonna go for it. I was briefly diverted by the 'team' Hybrid which was very nice too! Bigger wheels and lighter with faster gearing...probably better for the commute tbh.......£250 more though!
Good point though Tarbot about the option of sticking a suspension fork on the MTB in the future.0 -
SPANNER IN THE WORKS TIME!!
What do you reckon to this......as an alternative to the Boardman??
