I apologize in advance, since I'm guessing this post has been done to death. I'm looking to get into mountain biking and am on a budget of $1200-$1500. I was hoping to get some recommendations on 29ers. I'm about 6' and 175 pounds.
If there's a 2011 model that might be able to be had for a bit less, instead of a 2012 that'd be fine as well. Thank you in advance for any insight. The models I've looked at so far have been:
-Scott Scale Elite (I did find a Pro online for around $1500)
-Gary Fisher Cobia
-Santa Cruz Highball Aluminum
-Trek X Caliber
-Niner Bikes Air 9
-Giant XtC 29er 2

Links to what you are looking at so people can advise on what you are looking at."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I'm of course open to suggestions on other brands, since I'm about as far from the expert as they come.0 -
Prices are way different here - generally much higher. So impossible to suggest alternatives without doing a lot more homework than I'm willing to do.
But as the Santa Cruz link doesn't seem to show the spec, of the others I'd have the Scott.I don't do smileys.

That Scott does look to be a bargain. Too much of a bargain in fact. Just google the shop name and you'll see it's a scam.
Personally, I bought the Santa Cruz Highball R xc. It's $2000 though, but worth the extra over the D xc build. I've got a theory that a 29er must have a 15 mm axle fork (not that I'm an expert - I've never owned a 29er befor and only had this one for 3 days). Initial impression is that it's a very nice colour
