I'm in the market for a first full suss but am over whelmed by the availability. I want to be able to climb, take it on trails and hit some DH tracks (and ride on the road if I must). So versatility and in the £1000-£1300 bracket. As a female rider its important its light! Any one have ideas? Any help appreciated...

Pretty much the full spectrum then! It will all depend how hard the DH is - what size drops and jumps do you want to do?0

Looks well spec'd for the money. Works out at £1049 + postage.0 -

You wouldn't be travelling to quickly down Fort Bills DH run on that.0 -
I doubt DH actually means DH.I don't do smileys.

When you say you want to ride DH tracks define a DH track and are you aiming to ride these fast or just bimble down them?
If you want to nail DH tracks then you'll want a long travel, slack as slack can be bike, but it wont be light and wont be much fun cycling around on 'normal' trails, but do-able, it's all about trade offs.0 -
As above, we need to know just what you will be hitting - 15 foot drops, through boulder fileds at 45mph, 40 foot jumps?0

Something like a 6" travel AM bike would probably be the best compromise but getting a good one at under £1300 will be a bit tricky.
Bit heavier but this would do DH & XC. A small frame would probably be 31 lb ish. Climbs well. I have got a 2011 Reign X and use it for everything, it's not light (large frame, strong build weighing 34lb) but it climbs well & goes downhill like a good freeride bike. I have done an xc enduro & DH race in the same day (never again) with just a change of tyres.

Could probably get a used Giant Reign, the standard version with 6" travel for around a grand.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

Not sure I would want to ride a bike with a 68.3 degree head angle on DH trails. Might be ok for light AM riding but definitely not downhill unless you are either very brave or very talented.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
