Anyday now my Evans ride2work voucher will arrive!
Managed to narrow down the mine field of bikes within the 600 to 700 range to two
1) Genesis core 26.2 2012
http://www.evanscycles.com/products/gen ... e-ec031845
Or
2) Specialized Rockhopper Comp 2012
http://www.evanscycles.com/products/spe ... e-ec030687
I know spesh have a worldwide reputation etc etc but I know very little about Genesis.
Both bikes look great but I am more interested in which is better mechanically.
Could I ask which bike is better overall, I accept that within this price range there are compromises to be had.
I can't put any money towards the 700£ voucher at all and can only use Evans.
I have looked at few others but to be totally honest I am a bit lost as they all look great.

Hi
Thank you for the reply, any reasons why? Personal pref aside, is the Gen a better bike?0 -
oodboo wrote:It has a better and longer fork, the 32mm stanchions will probably make for a stiffer fork than the 30mm stanchions on the spesh. The groupset is slightly better as well.
Thanks again for your time0 -
If it was me I'd forget the scheme and get a better deal from a different shop.I don't do smileys.

I have the Genesis and the overall spec is higher on this bike. You pay for the Specialized name.
Do you have to spend your voucher in Evans? Most cycle shops take these vouchers.0 -
Neither are good bikes for around that price at all, even with the discounts.0
-
The Genesis is a very good bike for that money! Not quite up with the Decathlons, but still, a capable piece of kit and balanced spec,0

Thanks supersonic for your balanced opinion0

Which is the better bike here?

Based on several opinions I have eliminated the specialized , these others seem very good. Are they much the same.?0 -
That's come up with 99 bikes! can you narrow it down a bit?0
-
It's the 3 at the top that I chose for comparison purpose
1) genesis core 26.1
2) pinnacle jarrah four 2012
3) norco charger 6.10 -
Quite closely specced, but I think the Norco shades it due to the better fork.0

Again I thank you for your advice and I will no longer burden people with noob questions, hopefully next time I post it willl be about actual riding0 -
hi Supersonic,
forgive my ignorance but dont the Norco and the Genesis not have the same fork?
or is the Norco 100mm rather than the Genesis 120mm? a bit lost!!
what I should ask is, can the Norco handle a bit more rough front end treatment?
p.s my certificate has arrived so it's "crunch time". more do less talk.0 -
I might have looked at the wrong bikes - can you email three links to each exact bike?0

1st link doesn't seem to work I am afraid. Error message!0

Strange as I have just tested it and the remaining 2 and they all function correctly, perhaps give it another go. If you have time of course, appreciate this by the way.0

How does the Jamis compare

all,
I've gone for the Genesis core, much prefered the real look of this bike, and read up on the frame...
now here's to many years of car free transport.
thank you to the people who took the time to reply to my noob questions.
happy cycling!0
