After doing the Tour of the Peak a couple of weeks ago, I'm keen to do this but the route doesn't seem to be online. Has anybody done this before and what were your thoughts?

  • Out of curiosity I just Googled it and agree the route isnt clear however they do advertise that it goes over the Snake Pass

    Hmmmm

Im relatively local and whilst the climb out of Glossop is superb the middle bit between Ladybower and Doctors Gate is narrow and twisty with plenty of blind corners

I personally avoid this bit of road as I just never feel safe
Taking lots of riders over it on a summers weekend would not be my choice

    Be careful out there!

This was last year's ~50 mile route:-

This thread has a few comments about last year's ride:-

As I mentioned in the thread above, the long route added an additional initial hard loop westwards in the Cat & Fiddle-ish direction, before joining the 50 mile route; sounds like a similar route is planned this year.

Similarly to hell-fire, these are my local roads. The outleg of the 50 mile route is great, but the remainder not so good IMO: being a traffic-phobe, Snake Road from Ladybower->Glossop (and to a lesser extent Glossop->Hayfield) would not be my first route choice on a busy Sunday lunchtime/afternoon. That's the problem with trying to incorporate "flagship" Peak District climbs into events - they're all arterial routes or (like Winnats two weeks ago) filled with punters!

There are some other Sportives in this area in the coming weeks, both with high quality routes:-

    1. This Sunday (10th June): "Peak District 100" (100mile & 100km routes starting in Sheffield).

    2. The following Sunday (17th June): "Polka Dot Challenge / Spud Riley Memorial" (100 & 54 mile routes starting in Woodford)

Rode the above mentioned AMR 100 mile today and thought it a superb route, much nicer to ride than Tour of Peak, yet equally as challenging and far better feedstations.
