i want to upgrade my discs on my bike from advice given last night off forum. i been told they are not the best quality so i would like to know names of discs that would be compatible with my bike. my bike is a gt avalanche 3.0 2010-2011. i stripped the brakes down today sanded the shiny face off the pad and lightly sanded my disc. i finally wiped both discs and pads with metholated spirits to degrease them and put back together. any advice

Use your brakes there is nothing wrong with them.

What do you think is wrong or what you want to change?

Any rotors of the same size and fitting (eg 6 bolt) will work, but they are all pretty much the same and won't make any difference.
Also there is no point in sanding rotors and cleaning with meths is not a good idea, it leaves residue. Use IPA if you need to, but they shouldn't need more than a bit of water unless you spritz WD 40 or something equally horrible on them.

Brakes squeal. Especially when they are dry, or wet, or in between. And sometimes they don't, it's kind of random.

Softer pads generally make less noise. Sintered can be quite annoying sometimes. So if you have sintered you might try organic (but if it's gritty or muddy they won't last very long) or kevlar ones from Superstar, which I've found to be quiet and last ok.

But as Nick said just use them, and don't mess with them, they shouldn't need it.
