Headset bearings

Hello,
I'm'sure this has been answered but I cant see the answer I need, My steering has become stiff & I havent dismantled the headset or forks etc prior to the stiffness. I have since taken everything apart and only tightened the headset nut until there is no play but its still stiff and unresponsive. the bearings are in a sealed unit, do they need replacing perhaps?
Thanks

If you've been riding in the rain without mudguards, then likely that the lower bearing has got corroded. Suggested you remove the stem and drop out the forks to inspect the lower bearing - you may be able to resurrect it by dunking it in oil as a temporary fix, but likely will need replacing in time.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0
