Flat pedals for my son

Want a flat pedal for my son, I know nowt about them as I have spd's.
Looking at V8's any good?? The look of the pins on flat pedals scares me Do riders who use them all use shin guards (more expense for Dad). or are there some flats worth using that aren't quite as 'sharp'?

V8s are poor for the money. Look at Wellgo MG1, or B25.

Yuu are more likely to cause damage with less sharp pedals, as you will slip more,!

i do more damage to my legs walking back up the hill than i do riding the bike... catching my shin or calf as i'm walking pushing the bike is were the majority of my scars come from..

when i first converted from devils pedals to flats i wore shin guards (661 vegi) but now i dont bother...

Superstar Nanotechs are the best flat pedals Ive used. Depends what hes using them for though, for downhill Id suggest the nanotechs. But for dirt jumping anything will do really as you dont need much grip.

Dont bother with shin pads, scarred shins are part of the learning process.

They are for XC riding.

Id probably go for nanotechs then as the extra grip will be handy. How big are his feet though? The nanotechs have a big platform.

Do the same job as the V8, probably made by Wellgo (who make DMR too), just a lot cheaper! Are heavy, but not worth spending on the V8 when this is so cheap.

Fine for the price. I'd get him the pedals in the first link though. Same as the Superstar Nanotechs I mentioned, but cheaper. Mine have lasted for years. Great pedals.
