Hi , I have had a road bike past 15 years, I am 55 yrs old and just been knocked off for third time !!!
Use the bike just for fitness.
I am finding it very handwork getting back on bike this time- albeit had Physio -neck, arms etc still painful even after 6 months.
I am using a marin hybrid at the present but seek advice
Marin too heavy / slow but what are your thoughts instead of a road bike going for something similar to - Cube SL Cross SL 2012
Ideally would have like carbon - have @ £1600 to spend very much welcome your thoughts
Thanks

Plenty of choice within your budget.
With your injury problems I would be looking at a bike aimed at the sportive market. Usually lighter, more comfortable and more forgiving than a cyclocross designed frame.
Couple of options to consider :- one slightly above your budget is the Trek 3.5. Got excellent reviews and as a consequence was in short supply but that may have improved by now.

Another is the Giant Defy 1 - much cheaper due to the alloy frame but i would not rule it out unless you are determined to go down the carbon route.
