Rockhopper 2010 vs 2011> size difference

Looking for a used Rockhopper but theres a size difference in 2010 models and 2012. 2010 they do 17" and 2011> they started doing 17.5 ?

Is there really much difference ?

All the measurements are given, so is easy to see. It is 6mm longer in the top tube, barely noticable.

Just wondered why they added on the extra half inch. If it would make any difference.

Am assuming the 17" is a medium frame ?
