Hi im new to the forum, ive road bikes since i was young (18 now) and i know how to negotiate most things ill come up against. But ive never got the hang of understanding all the little specifications because i never bought my own bikes,my parents did :P.This is my first bike im going to buy with my own money and want some opinions on how good it is.

It's not too bad - but better can be had, like the Voodoo Bantu:

It may not have as many gears, but a far better fork.0 -
And better brakes.0

ok,is there any ways of telling if a bike is going to rattle itself to death after a while of harsh riding just from looking at the spec and pics?
How do these 2 match up to the carrera vulcan?0 -
Not really - they almost all pick from the same parts list.
For £400 look for hydraulic disc brakes and a damped (hydraulic) fork.0 -
if i order a bike from halfords, obviously it comes flatpacked, what exactly have i got to fix together, everything or just easy things such as the tyres and pedals?0
-
They fully build them in store!0

yeh but im working all week including saturday,so just wonderd, diddnt fancy a 10mile trip to my closest halfords :S0

Is worth it so you can try for size.0

goto the shop and sit on it! its your first bike YOU are going to buy get it right if you dont try it and then it turns out you dont like it you've only got yourself to blame.....
(sorry for sounding like your mother) or buy it and just start changing eveything you dont like as and when budget allowsopinions are worth exactly what you pay for them ;-)
2012 boardman team F/S tarting has begun..

Its not that i cant afford a better bike, ive got a few grand saved up,its just i cant justify spending any more than £400 on a bike :P.ive reserved the voodoo bantu, gna go there 2moro after work if i can get there before it closes lol.0

ahaha and look, its just been reduced by £40.0

whats your view on the mongoose salvo pro? the review from this site says it has a very good spec for its price, and then goes on to say its shock is bad as well as the breaks...?0
-
You got a link to the bike?0

Is good value in the fact that you can't get many frames for that price, let alone a bike... but it is heavy, and the suspension and brakes are not too hot.0
