Garmin Alternatives

I've been thinking about getting a GPS based computer but the price of the Garmin units puts me off somewhat. Has anyone tried any of the cheaper alternatives? For example, I notice I can pick up a Bryton Rider for a shade over £100 - what are these like?

    You can pick up a Garmin Edge 200 up for just over £100 if you shop around.

    I have just bought a Bryton Rider 50 new for £144, it is excellent and the mapping is great for planning routes. I found it easy to set up and it has a nice clear display.
