Hi Guys,
New member here, just ordered by first bike through the C2W scheme so thought i best sign up as i know nothing abouts bikes really, but looking to get into it as well as shedding a few pounds.
After much reading and advice i was going to go for the rockrider 8.1 but after the actually shopping today i ended up with a Cuba Aim 2012 i don't know much about the specs but i gather its not quite as good as the rockrider, but for me it looked better and after a quick test on both of them i did prefer it so decided on it.
I'm sure you all know what they look like but i got it in this colour
So any advice welcome, do's / don't etc as i am a complete novice, also good rides around the south yorkshire area ( sheffield )

welcome to the forum and get out riding!!!worst moment ever...
buzzing down twisting single track then.... psssst BANG!!!0 -
Welcome,
Nice bike! Although I am a bit biased as I have one myself
Best bet is to get out riding and as your experience builds up, you will have specific questions that you can pose. The best thing about cycling is how friendly people are and they will always be happy to pass on their knowledge.

only a couple of minutes away from you0 -
I'm relatively new to it too, and a student in sheffield. Crosspool has some nice bridleways. A favourite of my friend and I is a bridleway off den bank drive. Plus we're going out to hope valley on Friday which should be a riot. I've found that the Strava app on my phone really helps me to see how I'm doing, see my times dropping as my technique improves which is great.
Best thing I've found so far is put the saddle down, point your heels down, elbows out and loose arms on descents. Have fun0 -
Ey-up Dan. I'm also relatively new into this game and I'm also from the steel city but going on your moniker, I don't think I'd like to go riding with you. I don't think I could handle the smugness...
I'm still discovering trails round Sheff. Been told to get up Grenno Woods but it might be a bit too technical for me at the moment.0 -
Alright mate, don't be daft no smugness here lol, i'm only 5 mins from greno woods and hears its good up there so no doubt that will be my first stop !0
-
Greno is as hard or easy as you want it to be! Lots of paths, but some harder bits too.
Wharncliffe accross the road is better.0 -
Dan, someone at work pointed me towards this site which may be of interest. http://www.ridesheffield.org.uk/
Looks pretty good, I'll certainly be checking it out in depth later.0 -
I'd be happy to show you guys around the woods.0

Yes, I've heard about folk like you...
That's mighty kind of you. I'd be up for a trek. When were you thinking of? Weekends? After work?0 -
Anytime really! When is dry ;-)0
-
I'm going to try and organise a ride one evening next week, meeting at Greno Woods - probably meeting at The Acorn car park in Burncross.
Don't worry at all about your fitness/ability - I am not particularly good myself, and won't be going far, will be an easy intro into the paths.0 -
Sounds good mate. Give me decent advance as I live south of the city and will need to knock off early to fetch bike from home. I'm OK with fitness, don't mind riding for miles, just not technically experienced but I'm happy to learn.0

What news of yonder ride, fair SS?
Are we waiting for Dan Owl to get his bike? He's not posted owt since you offered. :?0 -
Not sure yet, as had a bout of food poisoning! Possibly Thursday evening, but see what plays out. No rush though!0
-
Not helping that I have snapped my frame too!0
-
Ouch and double ouch! The missus has been laid up in bed all weekend with one of those Norro Viruses, which is similar to food poisoning. Not good at all. Take your time mate, when you're feeling better and your bikes fixed..0
-
Got the Spesh to ride, but doesn't climb like the Zaskar ;-)
Shall wait to hear from the others too. And hopefully better weather...0 -
Weather's looking grim for later on in the week anyway, just seen the forecast. More heavy rain apparently0
-
Not what you want up there! Still finding mud from last time ;-)0
