Hi all
New to the forum.
I'm upgrading my carrera banshee after 7 years and am looking to replace it with a hardtail.
I have narrowed it down to the above two and would just like any opinions or advice. Especially from anyone who owns either of the above. I have tried both out and the are both very nice to ride.
I will be using it mainly for off raid trail type riding - the new forest is a good example of the typical place I will be riding.
It's now very difficult to pick between the two. There is only 50 quid in the price which is neither here nor there so I'd like to know what other poeple think or would advise.
Thanks
Rob

Yep, these are the two I have been considering and a third which has just gone on sale and seems a pretty good deal and is a similar price.

A bit biased cos I own one but the rockhopper all day long , my brother owns a Sl3 and its very pretty to look at but I dont find the Canondale`s build quality as good . And they don't ride as well either , I would also look for last years rockhopper if you can find one as the specs are better on last years models you might find a bargain0

On Paper the Cannondale trumps the Rockhopper - mainly due to the fork, the Deuce is a good piece of kit for the money.
But the Marin has a hefty reduction, is the lightest bike, the best drivetrain and a great fork (same as I am using on my FSR). If it fits, go for this one.0 -
Hey, I have a 2011 SL3 and absolutely love it, i view it as a great frame to upgrade as I see fit when required, its a great ride and gives no end of smiles!!!
Enjoy whichever you go for.'11 Cannondale Trail SL30 -
Cannondale but i would say that mines a SL 2 and I love it light and fast and for me handles really well. Also check out last years you willget a lot more for a lot less mines under £700 now.0

Thanks for all the replies. It's so confusing trying to understand all the parts. What is considered better than others etc.
I'm currently leaning to either the Marin or Cannondale. Think the specialized is out on colour. Someone also suggested the Trek 6000 which confused me further.0 -
Trek not worth it with that fork.0

Hi,
I have owned all three over the years, and out of them all I always end up using the Rockhopper( 2004 model).
So much that i have recently picked up a second hand frame to build up to replace my old Rockhopper.I don't mind what they say... as long as they say its enormous0 -
But have you owned the year in question? They have changed quite a bit! Spesh have steadily downgraded the forks.0

Is it the same form the Specialized has as well? I believe it may be the same as the one on my carrera only mine is seven years old at least.0 -
The Specialized one is tuned so reacts better: but still a long way off the quality of the others.0

Ok that makes sense. So is there any chance you could just briefly explain the main differences between the Marin and the cannondale. I think it's between those two now.0 -
The Marin gets a superior and lighter air fork, 10 speed gearing (which is wider ranging), better brakes and lighter overall weight. A nice reduction.0
-
So it seems the Marin trumps the cannondale in almost every area then? Do you know what the Marin weights out of interest? I can't find it anywhere.0
-
Is about 27lbs, the Dale a bit more.0
-
Looks like its likely to be the Marin.
How do the SRAM components on the compare to the shimanos on the cannondale?0 -
Similar - slightly higher in the respective ranges, but the feel is a bit different. Is all personal preference, you need to test if unsure.
I am under no doubt the Marin is the better bike here.0 -
Great. Thanks for all the help. Ordering the Marin tomorrow!!0

Very wise choice fantastic bike for the money and you will love the responsive ride that it will give you. Let us know how you get on with the bike.0
