Hi
I've just purchased this bike through cycle to work scheme from my local independent retailer.
Merida Matts Trail 100-D Team Green Mountain Bike.
Been told its a good quality entry level bike for £499??
The specs mean nothing to me as I'm just starting out in mountain biking/trail riding, but not your serious off road stuff.
Can anyone advise on the specs??
I wanted a bike that looked different to the normal colours and the frame design that are on the market with hydraulic brakes for that sort of cash.

  • Hi there, I had one of these bikes. Awesome bike for the price.

The only thing I would change of I were you would be the tyres, they are sh1te at gripping anything. Just make sure you take it back to the lbs if you have any problems assuming you have free services.

Otherwise congrats on the choice, it will keep you going and upgrade when something wears out!

  • Was looking at one of these for my son, only half an hour ago. I loved the low and short top tube, the slightly higher bars (good for a youngster/novice on the downslopes) and the general spec (180mm Fr and Rr hyd discs !)

Very impressed withthe frame quality (i'm no expert mind) and the bright green will no doubt appeal to my youngster, colour being as important to him as anything else

Off researching reviews now beofre i put the money down !

+1 on the tyres, not that great but the bike is a good choice. Had a lesser specced 20d for a few months and it was a good bike. It handled trail centres well and was pretty bulletproof.

Maybe consider a wider handlebar too :D

Well after a bit of searching around i found a cracking deal on the 500-D version, albeit a 2009 model. Arrived yesterday, got it set up in an hour (need to bleed the brakes as the fluid is a bit old for my liking), and my son took delivery today - he's over the moon, as am I, looks and feels a classy bit of kit and whilst i'm sure he'd like the flashy green 100-D, I think the olive metallic is less atttractive to ''lesser folk in society''. The frame seems very good and capable of many upgrades. First ride tonight and he's very impressed by the lightness of the bike (goodness knows what he'd make of a carbon frame !!)
