Not true I'm afraid Iain - Sky are more than happy for Eurosport to carry cycling - they don't have room in their schedules for it, it is still niche broadcasting and a robust Eurosport benefits Sky as they take an income from Eurosport. A robust Eurosport advertising Sky is ideal.

There might be that, but Sky cannot take cycling, as they don't offer free to air. Which is a requirement of broadcasting it.

When they started the team someone "in the know" said they'd hoped to pick it up.

Don't understand that logic, what's the point of advertising a product exclusively to people who already subscribe?

They can take it. They just can't take it exclusively. After all, Eurosport's not free to air.

They might not be subscribers to the Sky platform though. I watch Sky channels on Virgin.

Cycling fans looking to switch their Pay TV provider is a pretty niche market though, isn't it?

It was my understanding that Sky were launching the brand in Italy and that was the initial purpose of sponsoring the road team.

Nah - they did a big analysis of different sports (were thinking about a football team for a while) but cycling just "fitted". They take the whole cycle to work thing pretty seriously, it allows them to get properly involved at community and olympic level and they Italian thing was just a side benefit. If they were "hoping" to pick up some Sky coverage, I think this was merely an adjunct - although Iain, it sounds as though your "person in the know" is saying something different to my "person in the know"!

Scrap next Fridays Swiss stage, too.
They have WTA and ATP: one on either side.
    *hit small tennis matches, huh.
Doesn't seem to stop them plugging "live" and "extensive" coverage, though:

The revenue from tennis-related advertising will always beat those for 2nd tier cycle races and probably two of the three GTs as well.

Yeah, I agree, I love that the Dauphine coverage is interrupted to announce coverage of the Dauphine :?

But Eurosport is a pay channel right? You have to pay Virgin some sort of basic fee that maybe includes Eurosport. There's no way to get Eurosport absolutely free is there?

That is correct. I can't quite see why that is relevant though.

The point is I didn't read all the thread properly, and therefore joined in with a point already made

Having logged on to watch the cycling, and once again got tennis, I find it sort of irritating that tennis is so obviously boring even to tennis fans, that courts are nowhere near full! Perhaps they're all at home waiting for the cycling to start!

On the Eurosport Player (which Is how I access the channels) they are showing the same men's tennis match on Eurosport, British Eurosport and a special French Open channel (i.e. three channels). Surely they could find one channel to show the cycling?

Can we all send them an email of complaint, please?

On another note, does anyone here get a consistent high quality stream from the Eurosport Player? It always starts with a 'four bar' stream and then goes down to a crappy 'one bar' stream after a minute or so.

If you follow Eurosport on Twitter they are trying to keep you informed re. Schedule changes. I would say they've had a few complaints from cycling fans already. The rescheduling tweets are usually Dauphine related.

policy is to stick with live coverage. and then to talk about it for 10 minutes. and then to show tennis players sitting in cars. and then to show highlights of the live game we just showed.

and then to talk about it some more.

They are taking the p*ss, and taking our money.

I've sent a complaint and a few more from other forumites can't hurt. Expect some quality Eurobabble in response though.
  • Sat here waiting for the dauphine to finally start and I think I'm developing a thing for Annabel Croft, she's quite tidy for an older bird.
  • Eurosport's only saving grace is that they've got Annabel Croft presenting this tedious b0llocks.

And of course it is now on at the same time as ITV4's coverage of the Tour Series.

They'd have been much better off scheduling the Dauphine for somewhere between 8.30 pm and 9.00 pm, rather than constantly putting it back from 6.30 pm ish every day.

They've scheduled a whopping 30 minutes "live" sandwiched between live motor events for Sunday's big finish.
Think I'll stick with Rai's 2 hours worth. After all, it's a protest of sorts.
Best of luck, lads. You'll need it.

yestersay I meant to record footage of some men getting hot and sweaty in lycra and instead got some attractive women in tiny dresses keep bending over showing me their knickers. Never been so disgusted in all my life :D

Everyone stop whingeing, get yourself a new Sky+ box, and it'll record the cycling even if the schedule changes.

I live in such cycling saturated luxury I didn't have time to watch the prologue or stage 1, so I DELETED THEM WITHOUT WATCHING THEM :O . Scandalous!

That doesn't help if you want to watch today's stage, not to mention Sky's extortionate charges and the Murdochs being tossers.

I've got the latest sky box.

It changes about, but still doesn't always get it right.
