I am off to the continent in 3 weeks (June 24-30) to do the Transalp (road version). In its 10th year, the Schwalbe-TOUR-Transalp crosses the East Dolomites with passes including Timmelsjoch, Würzjoch, Gardena Pass, Sella Pass and Passo Fedaia. >> 7 days, 7 stages, 808km, 19,000m ascent, 17 passes.

Has anyone done this before? Got any advice, tips, etc?

Looked at this but couldn't find a partner so can't help I'm afraid. I noticed its dry much a race though with rules like no seat packs etc, and apart from the entry costs it looked great.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

    Bigpickle,

There tend to be plenty of people looking for team mates on the Transalp Forum. Usually where their original teammate has had to pull out (injured, etc ).

Agree that the rules are a little unusual:
    Prohibited:
Any kind of handlebar attachment, Saddle bags and cycle trailers of any kind, Bottle cages behind or under the saddle

As for price, at €650 it isn't cheap, but there is a lot included and it is for 7 days so equivalent to €93/day. As a comparison the other 7 day event I know of, the Haute Route, is €1,200.
