My gf has just taken delivery of a new Mtb .. It's only a basic bike but she loves it as it does look fab and it gets her out on the xc trails I use.

Was wondering as the forks on this Mtb are really just a gimmick could I buy say a cheap rockshox like a dart or something from ebay for this bike just to give it some confidence????
The bike is disk front.
What do I need to consider before doing so?
I.e. Steerer length, travel,

Well you asked if it was a gimmick or not! The fork is a gimmick, and should be changed if you can. That XCR is fine for the money and will make a big difference.0

I wasn't asking if it was a gimmick I was trying to state that it is a gimmick lol. Ok to put another way ... The fork sterile has linked too .. Will that go straight on as a simple replacement ? Do I need to buy anything else in order for it to fit?
ThanksMY CUBE

Should do - if the steerer on the bike is 1 1/8th. Then you have to cut down the steerer, add star nut, change crown race, swap disc brake over.0

Steerer tube length and dropout to crown length, but TBH once you start upgrading where do you stop?
They should be done under Trade Descriptions for calling it a mountain bike.I don't do smileys.

Sorry! , I mis interpreted you. Accept my humble apologies and beat me with a big stick if we meet up.0 -
Ok, so the fork are $hit.
I would let her believe they are ok considering that the tyres on this bike are massive 2.35's and will provide alot of small bump sus for her.
In the future she may want a decent fork and upgrading would probably entail the whole bike as lets be honest, its a starter bike to be nice to it.
I personally would not bother upgrading, just lie and tell her it's the biz.. When she gets good at this lark, drop some coin and get her a decent ride.0 -
That's 160 quid down the pan that could have gone toward something infinitely better for not much more. See if she can send the bike back.0

Might as well fit a rigid than leave that fork on, they weigh about 3kg! And flex like mad.
I actually don't think it is all that bad, bar the fork. Frame looks fine, has a Aheadset, EZ fire gears are fine.0 -
yeh but by the time you've added the cost of a half decent fork and maybe payed for fitting you're dangerously close to snagging a half decent bargain at Halfords or somewhere.0
