Rear wheel advice sub £300

Hi
I have a Boardman road race equipped with Mavic CXP22 wheels with Formula hubs (shimano/sram). Had the bike since October and probably done about 2000 miles. Noticed rear hub bearings felt a bit rough and had a bit of play. Stripped the hub down and cones are quite worn. LBS has some very similar new cones lying around, so are going to replace them for me 8) I live right on the coast, so reckon sand has got in there and worked it's magic
So I'm thinking that the hub when rebuilt will last a while, but will probably go again at some point. Had a chat with LBS about replacing hub, and rebuild cost would be £35 plus new hub and spokes.
Front wheel feels as good as new, but am going to service it over the weekend while I'm waiting for rear to be sorted.
So I'm thinking that the hub when rebuilt will last a while, but will probably go again at some point.
As I have a spare £300 at the moment, thinking of getting a new (better) rear wheel, or maybe worth buying a pair, not sure :!:
Could upgrade the hub and get the wheel rebuilt, but not sure if this is the best option. Rim wear is minimal and rim is in very good condition.
So, some advice would be appreciated please
What do you think is my best option :?:
Spend the £300 on a new rear wheel. If so which one?
Buy a pair for £300. What?
Get a new hub and get it rebuilt. What hub?

You want bullet proof hubs, good rims and plenty of spokes for you weight?
I give you the Hope Pro 3 RS-Mono wheelset for £300 or less. Hope hubs designed for UK conditions and derived from MTB hubs so they know how to keep the crud out. Mavic Open Pro rims which are excellent, and finally 32 spokes front and rear to make them completely bombproof.
Can't recommend them enough. So far mine have 6000 miles and apart from rim wear are as good as new.Mud - Genesis Vapour CCX
Race - Fuji Norcom Straight
Sun - Cervelo R3
Winter / Commute - Dolan ADX0 -
At 16 stone i'd suggest going hand built with someone who really knows what they are doing and can advise you on your choices. Maybe a trip to Liverpool to go and see Pete Matthews there - he's a specialist wheelbuilder.

It's not really worth rebuilding if you need to replace the hub, that should be the good part of the wheel and the rest the disposable. Spokes suffer fatigue, rims wear and yours with no eyelets suffer metal fatigue too.
Low end cone/ball bearings do that, essentially poor machining and lower quality steel... change the cone and the balls and keep going until it happens again (it might not)... then look for a wheel upgradeleft the forum March 20230 -
