Wife RE bought me this as a late birthday present, it is lovely, an obscenely extravagant thing and i dont know why they are so expensive but i love it.

    its a ball point, and writes beautifully. id quite like to try a nice fountain pen, they are lovely looking objects but i think they might be a bit grand for writing shopping lists!

    I used to write with fountain pens a lot when in school. Hmm might look at getting one for work...

    to be fair, i own a couple of less expensive pens which feel more substantially put together. Im not sure if i would have bought one of these for myself but it is a lovely gift.

    That's the ideal gift then. Something you really like, but wouldn't buy yourself as it's not really necessary.
