Arrived yesterday 87% (approximately built and will add pics later, but thought I'd give 1st opinion.

Finish of frame is generally excellent, everythin straight, bb reamed and faced, all bolts cleaned of paint etc. One tiny (less than 1mmx1mm blemish on top tube, but I'm not sending it back for that. Frame including ISP and seat mast topper is 1470 grams, of which the topper makes up 170 grams. The other downside to the topper is that it will not take square braided carbon saddles, so I have ordered a Ritchey one, as my saddles are square braided carbon, which will lose 50 grams or so. This means that I've had to put a 225 gram saddle on it at the moment, but this will become 110 grams when I can put my carbon one on.

Forks uncut - excellent finish 1.1/8 - 1.1/2, 410 gms uncut.

I expect to lose about 50 grams when I cut the seatpost and steerer tube.

Bars: 3T Forma SL 26.0
Stem: Ritchey WCS 26.0 110mm
Headset: Neco
Bar Tape: Gold!

Front Caliper: Iron Devo CNC Dual Pivot black ano. Looks the same as TRP 960 to me. 280 grams per pair.
Rear Caliper: As above.

Shifters: Ultegra 6700.
Cables: Jagwire Pro Racer Gold braided.
Front Mech: Ultegra 6700 on KCNC gold ano band.
Rear Mech: Shimano SLX long cage at present with gold ano jockey wheels. Will become Ultegra 6700 on return from the Alps, saving 80 grams.

Seat: Karbona cabon - 109 grams.
Seat Post: ISP
Seat Post Clamp: Will be Ritchey WCS

Cranks: SRAM Force 172.5. KCNC Gold ano chainring bolts.
Chainring(s): Force 50-34
Chain: Wippeman COnnex Gold
Cassette: SRAM 1050 12-32 at present, will be Dura Ace 12-25 when back from Alps, saving another 100 grams. Token Gold Ano lockring.
Pedals: Exustar Keo type.
Bottom Bracket: SRAM.

Wheels:
Rim: Chinese Carbon Tubulars. 20mm rim 20/24 Aero spokes. Novatec hubs. 1230grams the pair.

Tires: Vittoria Corsa CR tubs.

Accessories: 2x Planet X carbon cages, gold anodized alu bolts. Token gold downtube adjusters. Planet X Gold/Carbon QR's. KCNC Suprlight gold ano heaset spacers.

Weight: As at last night, before changes detailed above, 7.3kgs.

When amendments are made, I calculate a reduction of 400grams, bringing it in @6.9kg.

Considering the frame and forks were only £350 shipped and the wheels £225, I reckon the whole build will be circa £1500, which seems quite reasonable to me.

Don't know how it rides yet, but will try to get some initial piccies up later and then update when it's finished and again when I've ridden it.

The frmae was sourced direct from Shenzhen Baolijia Sports Equipment via AliBaba and came in about £40-50 cheaper than Carbonzone etc. As I understand it, Baolijia are the manufacturing arm of Carbonzone/Dengfu etc...

Are the wheels directly from Shenzhen Baolijia Sports as well? if so, i'm well tempted.

Sorry all, been away getting wet in Norfolk for the last week...

I'll get some pics done tonight. However, first ride on it yesterday - light, stiff, responsive, very stable on descents, very nimble uphill, managed to get the fit right first time too - no "on the road" adjustments needed. Although I had clearly set the rear mech up with my eyes closed, as the shifts were shocking. 10 mins in the garage tonight when I take the pics.

Wheels came from Carbonzone just over a year ago, don't know what the price is like now, but I'm guessing more than £225!

The Iron Devo brakes, which I have to confess I'd never heard of are absolutely phenomenal (with bog standard cork pads for carbon rims) - powerful, great modulation - they had an RRP of near £200, but I got them new on ebay for £80...I'd say they're significantly detter than the Dura Ace 7800's I've used in the past.

Saddle angle and bars look a bit odd from angle of photos, but actually aren't!
  • Nice! What do you make of the frame/ride? Is it a standard bb or bb30 etc? It looks like it has a tapered head tube, is that right? Cheers

I'm using a standard BB, but there is a BB30 option also.

Tapered headtube 1 1/8 - 1 1/2, nice stiff front end, no discernable flex.

Have only done 1 x 50 miles on it on Sunday, stiff and responsive but didn't feel harsh, so I think it will be ideal for big rides, but will convert well to racing, if and when I can be bothered again!

Do you have the link for the wheels?
Did they put any weight restrictions on them?

    like your bling don't you ? :D

any reason for going for the low profile rims rather then the more usual deep sections ?

    looks great :)

I was unsure about weight when I bought the wheels, as I vary between 82 and 87 or so kilos. Carbonzone told me they were OK to 200KG! Good luck with that if you're still able to ride a bike at 200KG full stop...

Looking at the specs, these appear to be the same wheel:

The frame was supposed to be black and gold too...

I think the anodising thing is a throwback to when I used to mountain bike in the early 90's - mmm, shiny bits :D

    They sent the wrong colour?
I think the gold tape is a bit much with the red and white, but black and gold would probably look much better.

My god, thats a right state. I think if you got some black stem stackers and white bar tape it would start to look much better.

No, they didn't send the wrong colour - the black and gold paintjob was taking an age for no apparent reason, so I agreed to have the red black and white one instead.

Styxd - duly noted and ignored.

Or black bar tape - lets not encourage the poor chap into the misery of failing to keep the white stuff white!

Is the black and gold the reason you went for the Thoork with the Test markings on or are you just a tightwad! I got one of those but paid the extra fiver or whatever it was not to have the gold bit on it. Not a bad saddle really - occasional creak if I shift my weight significantly but usually only under hard braking or suchlike.

The paintjob is crying out for some downtube and top tube lettering though.

I've had the Thoork for a couple of years now, so that wasn't the reason - I just happen to get on well with it!

White bar tape? No problem at all, I have it on my other bike, but that said I prefer the old style vinyl tape to cork anyway, which makes keeping it clean a bit easier.

I do happen to like to gold bits, but they were bought to go with the black / gold frame that I ended up not having, but way too much of a pain in the arse to send back and swap for black or whatever.

In terms of lettering, I agree. Just can't decide what to go for...I may have a look on ebay and see what's about, or I may get some custom ones done, but again, don't know what...

    I admire your stubborness.

I think black stem stackers would get it halfway there, those gold ones just dont sit right.

    What about red bar tape?

I don't have any black stackers.

What about white carbon stackers - would they help? - I have loads of those!

In terms of handlebar tape, whilst I appreciate that I am currently in breach of the rules by having different colour bar tape to the saddle, red, or indeed black would not remedy that breach.

I may well change it to white anyway, as the gold stuff is actually really, really slippy when it's wet, which I susepct will be less that ideal on an alpine descent in the rain, which is where I will be in 2 weeks time :D

And without referring me to the invisible decals thread, does anyone know a decent vinyl graphics maker who could do a frame / fork kit... and can copy the cervelo font but with my own logo?

OK, nothing to do with public pressure - headset was a fraction loose and I didn't have any more gold stackers. I stole some black ones from my MTB as I needed another 5mm (I'll cut down the steerer a tad more when I'm 100% happy with setup), and I have to concede that it has improved the look quite a lot - ignoring the gold bar tape, which is going, it's become a bit more subtle. It has added almost 10 grams though :(

I've got some white non-slip bar tape on the way too, as the gold is like a greased weasel when it's wet, so it's a practical change. I'll repost pics when I've made the change, which will hopefully silence the critics.

Still trying to find a graphics makers...any suggestions appreciated.

    Black spacers done.

White handlebar tape has now arrived and will be fitted tonight.

In terms of graphics, I'm thinking of these, designed by Marco in Brazil. Only difference will be that I would like Cielo and Rosso to be 2 distinct words. What do you reckon?
