Hi folks...I've currently some Aksiums on my Yukon but am considering changing them before a hol in the peak district. I'm not fussed about the looks, more concerned about an improvement in weight and perfromance but equally without getting proper balls out race wheels, they need to be reliable and serviceable. What are my options and critically, having being a bit rushed and letting things slip lately...I would need them by next friday  so off the shelf items are my only option. Are their any realistic options or should I just get more organised in the future?!

I'm in the same boat at the moment and have decided on these Pro-lite Bracciano's from CRC http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=29086
In the sale at the moment at a good price, award winning light wheels and can't find a bad review on them. Can't decide on silver or black though to go with new titanium frameset!!

Award winning? It's not a wine...
The only serious award a wheel can win is called a race and I don't think they've won any...
For example the Zipp 303 tubulars have won Paris Roubaix (courtesy of Tom Boonen)... respect!

Hmmn, had a quick browse at lunchtime, found some DTSwiss R-1700's which I think are on offer as have been discontinued but can't find much independent opinion about them though. Will probably stick with what I've got for now as it seems handbuilts are only way to fulfill my requirements.

Ugo, have you sold the velocities yet?

Not particularly staid looking but quick delivery and light boxes are ticked.

Looking at wheels today on the major known retailers made me think of my search for football boots towards the end of my inglorious sunday league career. There were a lot of loud looking showy wheels but it was nigh on impossible to find something both light(ish) and basic in appearance. I used to have trouble find plain black leather boots, it was all the bright colours the pro-footballers use which I would have looked a complete clown wearing down my local park! Unless I just didn't know where to look :?

Try petematthews.com, I have previous knowledge of his custom hand built wheels and still have them 10 years later. Hope this helps.

At least with a lot of factory wheels the rims have decals that can be removed (the Pro-Lite Braccianos have painted logos though). My next set of low profile rims will probably be something like Velocity A23 rims on a decent set of hubs with Sapim spokes - all black for a stealthy look.
