Wanted to spend around £500 on a decent HT. Taking advice from here I have looked at both the RR 8.1 and VH bike but neither are great lookers and if I am spending that kind of money I at least want something that looks right. The RR is too garish  and the white rims really don't do it any favours.
So I am still looking and open to suggestions even it means I have to spend a little more. I like the Cube's and also Boardman MTB however is there anything else around £650-£700 that is the right spec and looks the part?
Will be riding a mixture of trails all year round so the bike needs to be up to the job.
Thanks

That's the problem, why spend best part of 200 quid more to get a similar bike cos it looks slightly better. Ride it, wreck it, replace it with bits that look better if you really care, once they are done.

Thanks for that, will try and find on in 2011 spec, don't mind something lightly used.

This is a 40th birthday present and I really wanted something that looked the part. I looked at the RR8.1 for an hour tonight but it doesn't do it for me, the 9.1 or the XC at Decathlon look far better and to make the the 8.1 look as good would cost the difference anyway. White rims on the wheels???
