Looking at this model as a fitness bike for use mainly on country lanes and the occasional light trail.

is the Recon Gold (Solo Air) fork suitable for soaking up relatively small bumps on poor road surfaces? Or does it really only come into play on rougher trails.

Apologies if that sounds dumb but years back I had a Rockshox Quadra (old tech'!) that soaked up all low level imperfections but I later had a Manitou (can't remember the model) that was very stiff and didn't soak up low level chatter at all well. Maybe it was set up wrong!

  • Yes it should be fine for that type of use.
As it appears you dont mind ordering from Germany the radon bikes are worth a look, i just ordered http://www.bike-discount.de/shop/a58228 ... html?lg=en and the sid fork on that has dual air so you can set it to be good for small bump sensitivity or stiffer for bigger bumps.
Its the deal of the day also so you get 100 euros off (second time since Saturday so no rush to order).

    Thanks for your reply.

That Radon is very nice and well equipped - amazing how the Germans get the prices so low with the spec's they offer.

The Rose is appealing as for about another £75 I can switch the triple XT to double, add a saddle I really like, add Ergon GP3 grips, switch the tyres for Schwalbe slicks and add Shimano A520 SPD's which should do me nicely.
