yeah, I have the same issue on the quayside sometimes. There are a couple of repeat offenders I meet - MTBs, all the kit, bar mounted headlights, and helmet lights on full blast ambling along side by side oblivious to everyone else. Tried slowing down and asking, shouting and yelling to no effect but if I'm in a bad mood I just angle my light up and put it on epileptic strobe mode.0

Its my last day at work in 2012, and I knew I wouldn't be allowed an easy ride in. 24mph cross/head wind and hard rain pinging off my face. Possibly in the top 3 least pleasant commutes of 2012. On the bright side, should have a canny tailwind home.Cycling prints

Ive been on the metro all week. Very glad I didn't cycle this morning, it's horrendous out there.0

we've had enough days to test the waterproof gear! I've wore mine everyday I've cycled since mid November! works night out tonight so no way I could cycle with the amount of booze I'm planning on consuming!0 -

if you cycled in today I salute you. I think the end of the world may have started early.0

I had 2 pints on Tuesday night after work, and some tapas then cycled home. I actually went really quickly.. wish I had started Strava as I may have even beat some PB's. Was both shattered when I got in, and happy as I went quickly. However, was feeling sick the rest of the night due to combination of beer and big efforts!Cycling prints

Im beginning to regret it now :shock:0 -
So the headwind I had on the way in, has not stayed around as a tailwind. Dammit!! Gonna have a nasty crosswind blowing me into the traffic by the looks of it.Cycling prints

It was pretty hard going but i made it. Felt like i was almost stopped when the wind was gusting. Apparently more of the same tomorrow ?0

Headwind, crosswind, raid hitting me in the face like needles, arrived soaked both ends.
Didn't see many others braving it.I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.0 -
first day back on the bike today. Nice 12mph westerly wind in my face the whole way...
Gave the bike a good clean earlier in the week as it was minging, and got my first wear out of my new Sunderland Clarion jersey and jacket, so at least i looked good...0 -
First day back for me. Set a new PB on Strava on my commute! Despite a bus trying to run me into the kerb on the great North Road. Have written to Arriva to ask for an explanation of why he thought this necessary... I'll look forward to their response.Cycling prints

Im not back till monday, only had 1 week on the bike in the last 5. Going to feel unfit!0

It's too hot, 10C at the start of January, it'd be shorts weather if it weren't for the stiff breeze.I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.0

I cycled home last night in bibshorts, base layer, jersey and fingerless gloves and wasn't cold in the slightest. no idea what to wear this morning though.0 -
Yeah I swapped into bibshorts, thin tights, 1 baselayer, and fingerless gloves today. If its like this monday I'll be in shorts with no tights. Just wish I didn't have to wear the sweaty high vis jacket.Cycling prints

i opted for bibshorts with leg warmers, so i could not use the leg warmers on my way home. With a baselayer and jersey with fingerless gloves. It was quite cold for the first mile or 2 but after that I was glad I didn't have a jacket and full gloves on.
I just know we are going to pay for this mild January weather with days and days of snow in couple of weeks.0 -
Must be the first proper day back for schools, traffic in Gosforth was insane getting into town. Never seen it so bad. Took me 30 minutes to get in when it usually takes 20.Cycling prints

lovely and quiet last week - usual melee again this week so I stuck to my waggonway / cycle path favouring route while the drivers sober up. Still, nice to be back on 2 wheels and burning off the chocolate but I got f*n soaked last night, going to check my MTB is serviceable this weekend in case there's the chance of a snowy commute on monday.0

I had a weird one last night, riding along Great North Road towards Gossy park, went over the roadabout at broadway, when some other cyclist pulled out in front of me, making me swerve to miss him. He came round the back of me, and shouted something like.... sit on my wheel tiger. I would have happily sat on his wheel, except I was on a slow ride home, with an hour on the rollers planned when I got in. Anyways, if you are on here.. thanks for the offer, but try not to knock me over next time eh.Cycling prints

Hi all,
Newbie to the forum, been riding into work on and off for a few years now.
Usual commute is North Tyneside into the Quayside, best part off road along the river route.
Cheers.0 -

sometimes wish someone would offer me their rear wheel sometimes, rarely see anyone on my route thought0 -
Welcome to the thread Capt. S.
Finally swapped my tyres back to knobblies. The commute in is a lot more of a grind.
And the bloke on the SS overtook me today :x2007 Felt Q720 (the ratbike)
2012 Cube Ltd SL (the hardtail XC 26er)
2014 Lapierre Zesty TR 329 (the full-sus 29er)0 -
Welcome Captain S
Looks like its going to be an interesting ride home!
Managed to bash my knee on the sink as i got out the shower thismorning too, bruised straight away and is pretty sore especially over any bumps0 -
I knew this snow was due so got the metro in. Really need to get some Marathon Winters for the spikes. Don't know whether to get some for the road bike and get a spare set of wheels or some mountain bike versions and fit them to the GT Avalanche.0

Bikes firmly in the garage this week....went out yesterday for a nice 25miler up the river then over the Scotswood Bridge and back down the otherside.
Roll on light mornings/evenings and better weather.0 -
captain, i also went out for a 28 miler, from chapel park, along the river to the tunnel and back the other side....yip, bike in the garage as my feet were like blocks of ice!
agree with the light mornings etc.....0
