Anyone have any experience with these (Amercian Classic MTB Race 26"), if so good/bad? Are they race day only?

I've got AC wheels on my road bike and IMO they are superbly built and the hubs are great. They would definitely be on my shortlist.

I have the standard MTB 26 ones. They are light, stiff, accelerate nicely and they havent broken yet! The machining on the hubs is a work of art, the steel freehub inserts are a great idea and the hubs spin forever. The rims are nice and wide and they have even coped with a few messed up landings on the black route at landegla without going out of true or any other problems.

The only downsides are that the freehub engagement is a bit slow compared to some and the rim decals are a bit weak. Despite this I would highly reccomend them. I think they are very good value for money-most other wheelsets of this weight are much more expensive, have narrower rims or are weaker.

Whilst the race ones look to be very strong for their weight(the very light hubs allows them to use stronger, heavier rims and spokes for the same final weight), if you are not a racer, plan to use them for more than a season or two, or occasionally mess up landings etc I would probably suggest the standard ones over the race version for the 150g weight penalty. The website does seem to imply that they are not race day only-that they can be used for training too-however, so you may be alright with the race ones. It might be worth giving them a call and describing your riding to get their opinion as to which ones will be best.

Thanks. Just called Eurobike and they said the race wheels are not just for racing they will do general XC stuff. They quoted rider weight limit of 100kg so at 70kg I should be ok apart from my general clumsiness. Now all I need to decide is if saving 160g is worth an extra 100 quid?

What issue of MBUK were they in?

Those are the AM ones. The hub info still applies though.

ive run the std am classic tubeless whee son mine since last Jan, i'm 100kg rider without bag etc. since fitting, theyve not been touched apart from tyres, still true and roll amazingly fast, they take plenty of abuse too,
you wont be dissapointed!
