It wouldn't be ideal - would be a fair bit steeper.

is it safe to go for the 120mm then over the 100mm just wanting to go lighter,

They are 120mm anyway, unless you have an older one.

the fox i have now are the 140mm vanilla r after 100mm sids but if there unsafe for the frame geoemtry was looking at the120 mm sids due to there lighter than fox.

Safe for their intended use yes! Maybe a bit flexy if you ride particularly hard or are heavy.

just light xc tbh wont be doing any crazy jumps. just dont want to damage the frame/ride running 100mm just want to go lighter.
seen the sids rtl on wiggle in white,

I take it you are talking about Trek Fuel ex 9?

The newer ones are 120mm and older ones where 130mm.

So getting a 120mm SID will be totally fine that's what the frame was designed around.

100mm SIDs will also be OK but will make the angles steeper and could ruin the geometry on the other extreme compared to you 140mm Vanillas.

If the 120mm SIDs aren't available on offer then look for a pair of 120mm Reba's, similar performance just a bit heavier than the SIDs but much lighter than the vanillas.

    Yeah buddy
    It's the 2009 model it's running 140 mm fox van r
But after lighter option ie new fox or Sid prefer Sid as lighter been told by a few bike shops that 100 mm would kill the geometry so looking at Sid 120 mm rlt now
