Help -Scott Aspect 20 or Rockhopper Comp 2012 Mountain Bike

Hi
I am new to biking and I am looking for a bike with lockout on the cycle to work scheme - I can stretch to around £900 maximum although would prefer to pay under £700.
I have narrowed it down to two possible bikes but I am ope to other recommendations.
The rockhopper has the following

Impossible to say without knowing the prices, but I'll bet neither are particularly good value.

I don't think I'd be very happy spending that much on a bike to get such a low end fork. I'd be looking for at least a suntour raidon or epicon, or a Rockshox recon0

Some places are selling the 2011 Rockhopper Comp for just over £700. The 2011 version comes with Recon forks and is generally better specc'd than the 2012 version. Might be worth having a shop around.0

Personally speaking, I would not get too hung up on the spec. Have a go on each bike and see which one feels the best and then shop round and see what price you can get it for. I have a rockhopper and it's an absolutely brilliant bike

I would be hung up on spec. If I'm getting a bike, I want the best spec for my money and I'm sure many others do too.0 -
I wasn't too hung up on spec when I bought my bike and I wished I was, as it has been more costly in the long run.0
