...which will probably have ended by the time I buy one
Been looking at the osprey packs, specifically this one http://www.evanscycles.com/products/osprey/escapist-18-20-l-bike-pack-ec026645
Liking the "The Airspace ventilated backpanel and BioStretch harness provide perfect fit and comfort"
So question is, do you still get a wet, sweaty, sticky back with these, or does it really work and keep you dry and fresh??

Yes you still get a wet sticky back they only really work if your doing about 20 mph. Otherwise the airflow does nothing. I went for a ride with 2 bottle cages and a saddle pack this morning and it was lovely not to get soggy but it meant I had to stop and refill with water twice.Fig rolls: proof that god loves cyclists and that she wants us to do another lap0 -
If you are taking water, I'd think about a camelbak type thing, and fill with iced water. Offers a bit of relief for a while lol.0

Suppose I am asking miracles for this weather.
OK then, how about for normal british weather - whatever that is of course - will these be better than the boggo rucksack I have, with no special airflow system blah de blah....
Out yesterday, I just took my bum bag with tools etc in. But soon ran out of water with just the bottle on the frame. Guess as mentioned, a lightweight pure hydration bag with a couple of litres in would be the answer then?0 -
Is what I use - Decathlon have a good one which I use:

More like 5 litres than 8 litres of space, but enough for tools, tubes, food. Pity is in black!0 -
Ta, doesn't look too dissimilar to the one I have currently http://www.google.co.uk/products/catalog?q=trespass+rucksack+with+bladder&hl=en&prmd=imvns&resnum=4&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&biw=1366&bih=685&wrapid=tlif133812700918110&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=3293746560478926222&sa=X&ei=sDLCT4fPEcTU8gOW3-nICg&ved=0CF4Q8gIwAA just gets god dam sweaty...
Should stop worrying really, it'll snow next week0 -
I've tried a metric f**kton of different rucksacks and hydration packs over the years, and I will say, with some confidence, that there isn't any pack in existence that will prevent you getting a sweaty back. Anything resting on your back at all, no matter how well ventilated, will still result in a wet back.
However, whilst the pack's on, it doesn't really matter, and when it's hot, and you take the pack off for a minute to reveal your sodden spine, the cool air will give you a nice refreshing chill to cool you down0 -
Kind of had the feeling it may be a wild goose chase but you have to ask...
Haha, may have found the solution http://www.ebay.in/itm/Geeky-Beverage-Drink-Holder-Cap-/250941190878 just have to take it easy on the rocky stuff..0 -
Ive got an Osprey Escapist and think its a brilliant rucksack. You still get sweaty, but its not too bad.
This one may be a touch on the large size for day to day riding. You need to buy the bladder separately too. But if you want a great day sack for longer rides I then I think it will be great for you.0 -
+1 for the Osprey
I have a Talon 22 - moved over from a Camelbak Hawg.
The airflow thingymabob, does work better than other backpacks I've used, but in this weather, you are always going to get sweaty. You just don't get as sweaty as quickly.2007 Felt Q720 (the ratbike)
