Im looking for a tool to undo the torx bolts on my xt chainset so I can remove the rings.

A quick google search suggests that I need a T30 Torx bit.

The options I have found so far are a bit to fit on an existing wrench(that I already have), such as this:

Or an entire wrench, such as this:

Which out of the above will be best, or is there another better option?

Ive heard tales of them being extremely difficult to remove, including a mate who ended up drilling his out. Will the above do the job easily, or will I end up with broken tools/mutilated fingers?

Thanks

Never had an issue myself. Any torx drive on the front, 20p on the back. Should be off on no time.

Same on the SLX cranks I just bought, they were bloody tight - a lot more than I would have expected, but came off fine.

I have these and they have done the job for about 8 years http://www.amazon.co.uk/Britool-E030703B-4-inch-Socket-Pieces/dp/B004ZDYAN6 Should cover most things you will find on a bike.
