Well i took the plunge and bought an 800 edge. i bought the bundle that includes the heart rate monitor and cadence/speed sensor. i am struggling to set up the cadence. the garmin recognises the cadence/speed sensor and displays the id. the red and green lights both flash when the pedal and wheel go past the sensor unit. however i cannot see the cadence displayed on the screen and for some reason it does not show average speed when i am cycling.

Any help would be great.

A numpty question - have you selected cadence and average speed as fields on the screen?

I've only ever used the sensor unit for cadence, only problem being when set too close it can double the cadence figure.

Well i thought about that, but i can't find the menu that allows me to do that..it might be because i'm an old git. so may not be a numpty thing to say after all.

I just assume that once it recognises the cadence/speed sensor that it would automatically show on the screen

From switch on go to Menu > (spanner) > Bike Settings > Training Pages > Timer Pages > User Defined > Page One, and set your number of fields. You can select the fields at this point.

To change a field on the screen quickly without going into settings, hold you finger/thumb on a field for a few seconds until it turns blue then it lets you select a new field.
