Good XC riding in the Alps
Can anyone recommend good XC riding in the Alps.
My favourite area is Les Carroz / Flaine, which has about 1/2 dozen lifts open in the summer with the kind of XC (rather than DH) trails I like to ride, kind of downhill XC is how I'd describe them, and if you're prepared to do a little up hill cycling you can open up a lot more of the mountain.
I've been to the Morzaine, Les Gets, Avoriaz area, but that seems more DH orientated with the XC (that I've found) not as interesting as the Les Carroz area.
Can anyone recommend good Alpine XC regions, i.e predominately XC riding but with a few lifts to take some of the pain out of going up hill?

Les Arcs. It's a lot more xc orientated with a few DH's. We went expecting a quieter DH area, were disappointed.Check out my site - http://www.trail-dog.co.uk

By cross country, I guess I mean down hill without the jumps and berms.
In Les Carroz one of my favourite rides is up the cable car, then pedal straight up from the top, slot right down a fast gravel road, past the goat farm, track across a field down to a stream with a steep exit, so a bottom gear weight balance between spinning out the rear wheel or flipping over backwards.
Follow the edge of the mountain on a fairly simple single track section with spectacular views.
Then into a wider but wet, rocky, rooty section with a few steep descents, okay this is the start of an all day trail and will take me too long to describe, but essentially it's all (if it's not been too wet) ridable to reasonably competent rider having a good day.
The Morzine/Les gets trails seemed either a bit simple or full on DH (steep, lots of Berms) an adrenaline rush (especially the one down into Champery, I'll never forget the sight of one rider and his bike each tumbling end over end until the netting caught them before they went off the edge) but I'm too old now, it could be there are good XC stylie trails there that I've not found.0 -
Hi
Looking to go to the alps for 1 week in August, looking for a mixture of xc / easy trails for family rides with a bit more challenging stuff (think Gisburn / Whinlatter) for me and the lad.
Thinking of Les Gets, should I be looking elsewhere
