Went for a little ride last night using all I have available (DHB Roubaix bib tights) and nearly died

Can anyone recommend a decent pair of bib shorts for around £50?

Also a decent supplier of short sleeved jerseys wouldn't go amiss too! This weather snuck up on me a bit!

Great Bib Shorts without Assos prices ?

I'm quite happy with Shutt VR club bib shorts - £45.

I'm looking for some too, but hopefully for a little less!
Best vfm I can find is the '5' series from Decathlon, they look decent with a better pad than their entry level stuff (which I also have and is ok for the price) for £22 each...

I might give them a go and see what they're like before I go 'up a notch' :)

    Cheers,

I've got these and they are great - for something so inexpensive the padding is really comfy i also got these

which are a better quality and a tad more comfy but to my mind the only major difference is the material in terms of comfort they are about the same and for 22 squid you cant go wrong.

Dont buy the 5s from Decathlon, buy the 7s - they are £40 but the pad is soooo much better in them.

I've just pushed the boat out and bought some Gore Power II bib shorts from Bowland Outdoors in Scorton, £59.07, which is 20 below list, quality shorts at a great price, in fact all his Gore kit is a good price, worth a look at his website, has a good stock too.

If you're happy to spend around the £50 mark then Planet X have Nalini shorts cut price. They are pretty good - better than the Giordana shorts I used to use.

I had a bad experience with Bowland a year or so back. Ordered a Gore Gilet from them and it just didn’t turn up. They never answered the phone and never responded to emails.

In the end I had to get my bank to do a chargeback on the debit card.

I was recommended to buy some Lusso Pro Gel Bib shorts and i have to say they are great. i have tried a few different makes but these are the best i have used. in fact they are so good i bought a second pair last month. the pad is nice and thick and does not seem to flatten out over time. at £50 they are a bargain.

Godders I only live 20 miles from Bowland so I went in the shop, I have ordered a gore gilet from him but not paid him until he gets it so I'll see if he delivers his promise, though I feel sure he will.

I thought the dhb stuff was highly recommended. I need some new bib shorts and was gonna try dhb - should I look elsewhere then?

The Roubaix is more of a Winter bib. And in tights in this weather it must be roasting!

The dhb Aeron are great value imo. www.wiggle.co.uk/dhb-aeron-cycling-bib-short

Well just as an update to this I went out and bought a pair of the 5 series bib shorts from decathlon today and took them for a 22 mile ride tonight. I've gotta say these are soooo much better than the cheap ads 3 series stuff I've had so far! It's aol about the pad, this one is so much more beefy and preformed so it fits nice and comfy! For 22 quid, these will do for me! I imagine the 7 series will be superb with their gel inserts, maybe if I come into a bit more money i will get some next time! To be honest I'm not doing big miles to warrant the 7 series, maybe if I do a 100 I might get a pair. If anyone is thinking about these 5 bibs though, they're great!

I've got a pair of the dhb aeron race. Good fit but noticed on my first long run on Saturday that some chafing occured as well as bottom heat. Only occurred in higher cadence. I'm sure some appropriate cream will help. Don't have the problem with my dhb roubaix tights. Maybe it's the heat.

I got my shorts through one of Wiggle's special offers for less than £40, but I notice the price now closer to £60.

Looked at many others but big problem is being able to try before you buy as most of the good deals are on the interweb. I know and trust Wiggle to provide good quality kit. Plus you get free Haribo with the order.

As for tops, took advantage of the recent freebie from Cycling Plus subscription and picked up an Altura short sleeve. Decent top, looks good. Not as cool as my Endura Burner Lite MTB top, but it's got pockets at the back. Check out the latest Cycling Plus mag, they've got an article on summer tops, although as usual they tend to focus on the high end a bit too much.

Try also looking at the Rose website www.rosebikes.co.uk they have some decent kit at decent prices.
