Clamping Carbon Seatpost & Height Adjustment

Hi
2 Main points here:

1: Is a carbon seatpost more vulnerable when being clamped into my downtube? I am using a salsa QR clamp.
Reason for asking is that my old seatpost kept slippimng down approx 1cm every 30-45 mins of riding and had the clamp pretty tightly locked on.
Just asking as i don't want to unknowingly fatigue/stress/break the seatpost.

2: For a 400mm seat post am i actually getting an extra 5cm more height extension of the seatpost (or is it more like eg 3cm?) until i reach the maximum height limit?

Also should i grease the seatpost before putting it on my bike?

Thanks

Yep, grease it using carbon paste - the same for carbon stems and bars

The carbon paste is "grip paste"- it reduces how tight you need to do up the seatclamp to stop the post slipping.

1 - worry about that if it slips - it shouldn't.
2 - depends on the min insertion limits of the two posts.

Sorry guys in point 2 I was comparing a 350mm seatpost with a 400mm seatpost.

Still depends on the minimum insertion limits as to how much useable post you have.

But all things being equal, it will be 50mm.

As in 50mm more available extension/height availability.
