Wild Edric 2012

Anyone else here do this last Sunday?

There's a great little write up and video from Eddie Allen here:

I rode the long version and witnessed the accident which resulted in someone taking a trip to hospital. First time I've ever witnessed such a thing, and it was scary as hell. Makes you realise how fragile and vulnerable we are when we're out on the road.
My blog account of the incident is here:

Nice write up - the adrenaline rush you talk of is spot on. I rode the short event on this one and thought the second main descent off Long Mountain was nastier - some blind corners and quite steep in places. Couple of guys in front of me descended unclipped hanging on the brakes for dear life!
Enjoyed the route and organisation was pretty efficient - the last time I rode a kilotogo event was the Cheshire Cat about 3 years ago and the queues were horrendous at the start - the ability to arrive and ride on the Edric was great.
Just wish we'd got some views from the Long Mynd as a reward!!

Yes it was quite misty up there!
I did the Cheshire Cat in March this year, and the organisation was perfect. Couldn't fault it.

I did the 63 mile route - thats me you can see wobbling about on the video between 1:18 and 1:23!

Was my first sportive - well first time riding with other people actually! Did it in 4hr 34 including 10 mins at the feed station (stuffing about 10 galaxy bars into my gob!)

Worryingly - I got cramp in both my calves after about 5 miles and the rest of the race they were absolute agony. Had to keep getting off to stretch them, but battled through it to the end. Not suffered from cramp in any of the 60-70 mile training rides I've been doing in the cotswolds. Maybe something to do with my diet, really cut down on the cals Mon-Thursday as I'm trying to lose weight as part of my preperation for the Etape in July.

Apparently these were the signs for a sportive that we saw during the 2nd day of the 600km Bryan Chapman Memorial. Both routes went up the hill near Newtown and then along a laney B road towards Knighton.
