Bontrager Rim Wear Indicator?

Hi guys, forgive the novice question. When replacing my pads recently I noticed this pronounced groove in my rims. After being concerned (as I had worn my previous pads down to the metal) I Googled it and think it might be my wear indicator. Pic below:

Am I right? Or is my rim scored by me being a maintenance muppet? :oops:
