My mate is looking to buy a bike, as cheap as chips, on the phone he said £100, but i think he can push more, he has joined the army and is doing the trans pennine with them, and wants a bike for that, not full sus, obviously for that price, was wondering if you can get a bike for that sort of price which would do that job.
He'd be looking at an 18'' frame

Not for serious off roading. Check Decathlons entry level stuff.0

Best option is used(see ebay, gumtree, classifieds on this forum etc.) at that price. If the budget could be increased to £150-200, decathlon do some nice bikes.0

IMO at £100 2nd hand you a likely to get a bike that has problems and my require money spending on it to put it right. I'd go with SuperSonics advise and I'm very happy with my Decathlon bike & the service I received from them0

Guy at Swinley rides one - over some really gnarrly stuff, probably quicker than I can ride a bike with the right number of wheels. (Not that that's saying much)I don't do smileys.
